Se pensi che la geopolitica sia roba da telegiornale serale, fatta di conferenze, trattati e leader con le mani giunte, ti sbagli di grosso.
La vera guerra – a colpi di embargo, speculazione e diplomazia agricola – si combatte anche sul campo… agricolo. E gli effetti li vedi, ogni giorno, nel tuo carrello.
Ecco perché, dietro al tuo piatto preferito, si nasconde un mondo complesso che va ben oltre la tavola: la geopolitica alimentare. Negli ultimi anni, eventi globali come la guerra in Ucraina hanno acceso i riflettori su quanto il cibo sia diventato una questione strategica globale. Ucraina e Russia, due colossi dell’export di grano e semi di girasole, hanno visto le loro produzioni bloccate o limitate, faccendo schizzare alle stelle i prezzi internazionali e creando tensioni che arrivano fino ai supermercati della GDO (Grande Distribuzione Organizzata) dove fai la spesa ogni giorno.
Ma non è solo colpa della guerra. Cambiamenti climatici, pandemie, crisi economiche e disastri naturali stanno mettendo a dura prova la catena globale del cibo. Le nazioni più potenti si chiudono in un protezionismo alimentare, chiudendo i mercati interni e trasformando la sicurezza alimentare in una leva di potere geopolitico. Insomma, il cibo è diventato un’arma, e noi consumatori siamo in mezzo a questa partita senza neanche accorgercene.
Cosa significa tutto questo per te, consumatore medio? Significa che ogni scelta alimentare ha un impatto più ampio di quanto immagini. Scegliere prodotti locali, stagionali e sostenibili non è solo una questione di gusto o salute, ma un modo per dire no a un sistema che sfrutta la fame e la scarsità per mantenere equilibri di potere. Mangiare bene diventa così un gesto di resistenza, un atto politico ed etico che parte dal carrello della spesa.
Il tuo carrello racconta molto più del tuo palato: racconta dove finisce il potere, chi lo gestisce e quanto contano davvero le risorse agricole.
Immagina se milioni di persone smettessero di comprare snack pieni di zuccheri e grassi industriali. Il mercato cambierebbe. I governi ascolterebbero. Gli scaffali si svuoterebbero di schifezze. La potenza del “voto” del consumatore può davvero cambiare il mercato.
Non esistono acquisti neutri. La mozzarella in offerta a 0,89€ ha dietro un sistema. Il pollo a 2,99€ al chilo… anche troppo bene lo sappiamo da dove arriva. E il tonno sott’olio, se arriva da una zona dove si pescano anche i diritti umani… è più amaro del previsto.
