Neuropsichiatria infantile e approccio specialistico

La neuropsichiatria infantile rappresenta una disciplina centrale nella diagnosi e nella gestione delle sindromi PANS e PANDAS. Il neuropsichiatra infantile è lo specialista che può cogliere l’interconnessione tra sintomi neurologici, immunitari e comportamentali, offrendo una visione integrata del bambino e del suo sviluppo.
Nel contesto di PANS/PANDAS, il neuropsichiatra svolge un ruolo fondamentale in:
- Valutazione diagnostica: attraverso colloqui clinici, test neuropsicologici e osservazione diretta, identifica la natura e l’origine dei sintomi neuropsichiatrici.
- Coordinamento terapeutico: collabora con pediatri, immunologi, psicologi e altri specialisti per costruire un piano di cura multidisciplinare.
- Monitoraggio evolutivo: segue il bambino nel tempo, adattando le terapie in base alla risposta clinica e ai cambiamenti sintomatologici.
- Supporto alla famiglia: offre strumenti di comprensione, strategie educative e indicazioni pratiche per affrontare le difficoltà quotidiane.
- Advocacy clinica: promuove il riconoscimento delle sindromi e la formazione degli operatori sanitari e scolastici.
La neuropsichiatria infantile non si limita alla cura dei sintomi, ma si occupa del bambino nella sua globalità: affettiva, cognitiva, relazionale. In Italia, i servizi di NPI sono spesso sovraccarichi e disomogenei, ma rappresentano un presidio essenziale per la salute mentale dell’età evolutiva⁽¹⁾.
È urgente investire in formazione, risorse e protocolli condivisi, affinché ogni bambino con PANS/PANDAS possa accedere a una presa in carico competente, tempestiva e umana. Il neuropsichiatra infantile è il custode di questa visione: una medicina che cura, ma anche che comprende.
