Il 60% degli sportivi LGBTQIA+ in Italia dichiara di aver sentito insulti omofobici nel proprio ambiente sportivo (Outsport, 2019). Una cifra che dice molto più di mille slogan: nello spogliatoio italiano, la mascolinità si misura ancora con la negazione dell’altro.
Il calcio come tabù
Le ricerche condotte dal Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca Bioetica di Napoli hanno rilevato come il calcio sia lo sport in Italia più segnato da pregiudizio omofobico, seguito da pugilato, danza, basket e nuoto. L’omosessualità resta un tabù radicato, spesso vissuto come incompatibile con l’immagine dell’atleta modello.
Pregiudizi rinforzati dagli educatori
Gli studi di Scandurra, Amodeo e Valerio mostrano che gli studenti di Scienze Motorie – i futuri allenatori – presentano livelli più elevati di atteggiamenti omofobici rispetto ai colleghi di altri corsi universitari. Ciò significa che pregiudizi e stereotipi vengono spesso trasmessi proprio da chi dovrebbe educare allo sport e alla convivenza.
Un problema culturale
Secondo il progetto europeo Outsport, il 60% degli sportivi LGBTQIA+ in Italia percepisce un linguaggio omofobico nel proprio ambiente, una percentuale più alta della media europea. Le persone transgender sono quelle più colpite da esclusione e violenza simbolica.
Gli episodi pubblici
Gli insulti di Maurizio Sarri a Roberto Mancini, le parole del presidente dilettanti Felice Belloli sulle calciatrici “quattro lesbiche”, le battute di Carlo Tavecchio: episodi che confermano quanto l’omofobia resti normalizzata nel calcio italiano. Non semplici scivoloni, ma indicatori di un sistema culturale che resiste al cambiamento.
Altri sport e dinamiche di genere
Negli sport individuali la pressione è meno evidente, ma la solitudine rende più difficile la visibilità. Negli sport femminili, invece, persiste lo stereotipo opposto: la calciatrice è automaticamente bollata come lesbica, mentre il ballerino viene etichettato come effeminato. In entrambi i casi il genere diventa un’arma per esercitare controllo e marginalizzazione.
Conclusione
Lo sport, e il calcio in particolare, non può continuare a essere rifugio di una mascolinità tossica. I dati scientifici, i rapporti europei e le cronache recenti dimostrano che l’omosessualità nello sport non è un tema di nicchia, ma una questione culturale che tocca identità, linguaggio e inclusione. Parlare di fair play non può limitarsi al rispetto delle regole in campo: significa abbattere le barriere invisibili che relegano ancora oggi atleti e atlete LGBTQIA+ al silenzio.
